Last post we looked at the how fear can be used as a tool for defeat. However, what you fear will determine if it brings defeat or victory. Now when you fear the enemy, it brings defeat but when you fear God it brings victory. God will have victory over you and then make you into a Victor.
The reason the Bible commands us to fear the Lord is because it is a sign of our faith in Him which leads to our victory. God’s victory over us is our victory, not our defeat. The flesh is always at war with God’s will, but when He conquers us, we submit to His will. Because God’s designs are the best for us, walking in His will brings fulfilment. The only person who truly understands why anything was created is its creator.
11 For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, as we fear the Lord, He conquers us (our will and desires), and we begin to walk in His will. We begin to get instructions on what to do and how to do it in accordance with His will. Think about it, when a person is conquered, it is the conqueror who determines what that person does and how that person lives. How lovely it is that our loving Father is the one who conquers us. We are assured that He has the best plans for us because He knows us better than we know ourselves (Jeremiah 29:11).
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Proverbs 9:10
For fear of God, you act in ways that please him. You choose to live a pure life and refuse to curse or cheat because you fear God. Can you see how your fear of Him is causing you to submit to His will and resemble Him? Indeed, fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and that wisdom is God’s wisdom.
The fear of God is what gives access to wisdom. You can’t have Godly wisdom without first having the fear of God. Wisdom enables you to act righteously, “what is right?” a thing which is in accordance with God’s will. Anything that deviates from God’s will is wrong. This is because only God is Truth. For this reason, the first thing you should do when you find yourself in a difficulty is to see what God has to say about it. What God says is true and everything else is a lie.
One of God’s desires for us is to become sons who conquer. Adam was given the command to have dominion. This is another beautiful thing about being conquered by God, we are made conquerors to take dominion of the world and bring it into subject to God.
You cannot conquer until you have been conquered by God. Only sons can conquer because they have been conquered and the evidence that a son has been conquered is that they are led by the Spirit of God, walking for fulfil His will (Romans 8:14, Galatians 2:20).
What does it mean to be conquered? When you no longer have a will of yours, God’s will become your will and as this happens, you become like Him and eventually turned into a conqueror. You know those times He ask you to make peace, to forgive, to apologize, to give, to love even when you don’t feel like it? He is conquering your own will and making you like Him.
Jesus the first of the sons was conquered by God and became a conqueror. Jesus died to himself as God, He took up the human flesh just for the Father’s will and because of this, He was raised as a conqueror and was given dominion over all.
8 After He was found in [terms of His] outward appearance as a man [for a divinely-appointed time], He humbled Himself [still further] by becoming obedient [to the Father] to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9 For this reason also [because He obeyed and so completely humbled Himself], God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus [b]every knee shall bow [in submission], of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess and openly acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord (sovereign God), to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2: 8-11
As sons’, dominion is available to us but we must first be conquered, are you ready to be conquered by God? It first starts with surrendering your life to Him.
You may have read this and haven’t accepted Jesus into your heart or feel like you’ve lost your way in the busyness of life. I would like you to say this short prayer: “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge you as my Lord and personal saviour. I repent of my sinful ways. I say yes to your will. I ask that you come into my heart and make it Your dwelling place. Lord Jesus, teach me your ways so that I may know you intimately”.
