A group of people were walking together, heading to an unknown location. This group included men, women, and kids of various ages. My attention was drawn to a young child between the ages of one and two. He was so little—perhaps even the tiniest member of the group—but he kept moving. They came across an open ditch that they all had to cross as they continued their journey. This ditch was seen as normal by the rest of the group, but it was enormous for this small boy. I was thinking to myself, “How will this boy cross this ditch? If no one helps him, he might fall into it.”
I didn’t see anyone in the group attempting to assist him, and I had the impression that he was either going to stay back out of fear or attempt to cross and fall. Then I watch the small boy bravely attempt to cross, and as he was about to stumble, I witness an eagle lift him to the other side. I came to understand that the eagle had been watching all along and that all she had wanted to see was the little boy make that brave leap of faith.
I questioned, “Was the boy not afraid, didn’t he perceive the danger?” The reason he didn’t see any danger was because he had an innocent heart and believed that someone in the group would come to his aid. He was merely following the group. Jesus instructs us to behave like children in Matthew 18:2–5 if we want to enter God’s kingdom. This is so that they can easily believe anything since they have a pure heart. Faith sometimes is foolishness to the wisdom of men. Children are not burdened by the realities of life, that stifle one’s capacity to believe. To join the Kingdom of heaven, faith is essential. Entering all of God’s promises requires faith. Are you willing to take that leap of faith, trusting that God will carry you and not let you fall just like He did with this child?
2 He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.
Matthew 18:2-5
What is the ditch that stands between you and your destination? It’s time to adopt a childlike mindset to cross it, and just as the eagle arrived to carry that child, the Lord who has given you the vision will also bring you through to the other side. This applies to all aspects of life, including your spiritual life. Some people may find it difficult to pray, read the Bible, or develop a close relationship with Abba, and you may ask God for guidance, but what measures have you taken? If you want to pray more, start by doing that and then let the Holy Spirit lead you the rest of the way. As believers, we must apply faith to all we do since it is what sustains us. We must have faith that God hears us and that we hear God.
4 Even to your old age and gray hairs, I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
Isaiah 46:4
We see this childish faith in Joshua and Caleb. They were sent as spies to investigate the region and report back. Joshua and Caleb saw a region that could be conquered while others saw giants. Because God had previously revealed Himself to be mighty, they trusted Him to do so once more. Faith is a product of hearing the word of God over and over again, thus in order to strengthen your faith in a particular issue, you may need to reflect on previous encounters with God. When it’s difficult to find personal testimonies of God, look to the scriptures and listen to the testimonies of others. Jesus is the same today, tomorrow, and eternally, according to the Bible. So, if He did it before, He will do it again.
The story of David and Goliath is another wonderful example. David didn’t view Goliath as a significant obstacle because he was going along with the Lord. He did not advance in his own strength, but in the strength of the Lord, and God gave him success over Goliath in addition to other things. Even though David had previously been crowned king, he was unable to do it without first facing the giant Goliath. He had one ditch to cross before reaching the palace—Goliath. He was led into the palace and moved one step closer to the throne when he crossed the ditch. Challenges should not be viewed as a barrier; rather, they should be viewed as chances to practise your faith to enter God’s promises.
In conclusion, make that leap of faith right away so you can explore everything the Lord has in store for you. I appreciate you reading this blog post through to the end. You may have read this and haven’t accepted Jesus into your heart or feel like you’ve lost your way in the busyness of life. Surrendering one’s life to the Lord is the first step in the journey of faith. I would like you to say this short prayer: “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge you as my Lord and personal saviour. I repent of my sinful ways. I ask that you come into my heart and make it Your dwelling place. Lord Jesus set me free from all lies, bring me into Your truths and fill me with the Joy that comes from Your truth.”
