Leave the Heater On

I want to tell you a story about a time when the water heater timer in my apartment broke, leaving me with two choices: I could leave the heater on constantly, or I could set up a reminder to turn it on at certain times. I chose option two because leaving the heater on all the time wasn’t an option given how much the energy bill had increased.

Wow, great decision, I thought, but one day when I went to take a shower, the water was ice cold. I was quite angry, but who should I be angry with? Of course, I’m to blame for forgetting to switch on the water heater; who else is there? I had to wait because it takes approximately 30 minutes to warm up. The issue was that I didn’t set a reminder and I didn’t deliberately turn on the heater at specified times, which is why I forgot and got icy water.

God used the experience of the cold shower to teach me a lesson. Some of us have a relationship with God in this way. We frequently go through our entire day without spending time in fellowship with Him because we are not deliberate about making time to spend with Him. It’s important for us to intentionally spend time with Him in our relationship. We are aware that praying continuously requires a lot of sacrifice, but we can keep the flame alive if we are purposeful about setting aside time each day to spend with Him.

Similar to how I didn’t realise the water was cold until I was in it, we don’t realise we’re cold until we’ve been subjected to obstacles or attacks that overwhelm us. Our battles are with principalities and powers rather than with actual people. The best method for us to be on fire all the time is to intentionally schedule time for prayer and communion with God. Setting a time helps us develop consistency so that spending time with Abba becomes second nature. You can begin at any convenient moment, even if it is only for 15 minutes; just be persistent, and you will progress from there. We must nourish our Spirit man since we are spiritual beings.

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;

Luke 18:1

I’m hoping that by sharing this experience with you, you’ll reflect carefully and set a reminder to avoid taking chilly showers. Additionally, be disciplined to follow through after setting the reminder. Keep in mind that God want to be with you more than you desire to be with Him.

For those curious know what happened after the heater experience? I remember to turn on the heater cause once bitten twice shy they say. It won’t get me again.

Please feel free to share ways you try to stay on fire and or questions you might have.

I appreciate you reading this blog post through to the end. You may have read this and haven’t accepted Jesus into your heart or feel like you’ve lost your way in the busyness of life. Surrendering one’s life to the Lord is the first step in the journey of faith. I would like you to say this short prayer: “Lord Jesus, I acknowledge you as my Lord and personal saviour. I repent of my sinful ways. I ask that you come into my heart and make it Your dwelling place.  Lord Jesus set me free from all lies, bring me into Your truths and fill me with the Joy that comes from Your truth.”

Shalom Light Bearers !!!
